Roundup of college scholarships available to Dallas ISD students

The winter break is an ideal time for high school seniors to apply to some of the many college scholarships available to them.

Below is a rundown, courtesy of Dallas ISD’s Counseling Services, of some of the available college scholarships. Learn more here.

  • Wells Fargo Scholarship- Due January 17, 2017
    Wells Fargo is committed to empowering people with disabilities as they work to obtain the education or training they need to succeed in their chosen career path. To show that commitment, Wells Fargo is providing renewable scholarships of up to $2,500 for full-time students, and up to $1,250 for half-time students.

  • Annual Business and Finance Scholarship- Due January 29, 2017
    The Business Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship is offered to students planning to pursue or currently enrolled in a college degree in a business- or finance-related area of study.

  • Harvey Martin Dream Foundation Scholarship- check website for deadline- after January 21, 2017
    The deadlines will be posted on the application tab on the foundations website, January 21, 2017. The essay topic will be given, on a day selected by the Board, at a location posted on January 21, 2017, when we meet the qualified applicants. The foundations website is (www.harveymartindreamfoundation.com). The Harvey Martin Dreams Foundation was conceived by the late Harvey Martin and his sister, Mary Martin. In honor of her brother’s legacy, it has become Mary’s inspiration and passion to establish a foundation in her brother’s memory that will motivate, encourage, inspire and financially assist the ‘average’ or ‘marginal’ student who has the desire to further their educational aspirations beyond the high school level.

  • Healthcare Leaders Scholarship- January 29, 2017
    The Healthcare Leaders Scholarship is offered to students entering or currently pursuing an educational program related to nursing or medicine. Students must be at least 17 years of age and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Scholarship opportunities for Blind/Visually impaired students- Due March 31,2017
    To recognize achievement by blind scholars, the National Federation of the Blind annually offers blind college students in the United States and Puerto Rico the opportunity to win one of thirty merit-based, national-level scholarships worth from $3,000 to $12,000. All scholarships awarded are based on academic excellence, community service, and leadership.

  • ACEC Dallas Scholarship- Due February 3, 2017
    The scholarship committee will select three seniors from the Dallas ISD graduating class of 2017 to each receive a $2,000 scholarship upon documentation of enrollment in at least 9 credit hours in the Engineering Curriculum of an accredited college/university/community college.

  • State Fair of Texas Scholarship-Due February 15, 2017
    The Pete Schenkel Scholarship is named after a longtime friend and supporter of the State Fair of Texas. Pete Schenkel served as chairman of the Fair’s board from 1999-2003 and was the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Linz Award, which recognized his civic service and humanitarian efforts benefiting Dallas. Eligible recipients for the Pete Schenkel Scholarship include graduating high school seniors from five Dallas Independent School District high schools in the Fair Park area – Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, James Madison, Lincoln, North Dallas and Woodrow Wilson High Schools

  • North Texas Relocation Professionals Scholarship 2017- Due January 31, 2017
    North Texas Relocation Professionals is a non-profit organization that brings together corporations and relocation service providers in Dallas/Fort Worth for the primary purpose of providing educational information and current industry updates to its members. As part of our commitment to Relocation, NTRP has developed a scholarship program for current high school seniors who have relocated into the Dallas/Fort Worth area sometime between grades 9 (after 8th grade graduation) and 12. Scholarship awards of $1,000-$3,000 will be presented to a minimum of two Dallas/Fort Worth area high school seniors this year (Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties).

  • Tom Joyner Foundation Full Ride Scholarship Available- January 20, 2017
    The cost of a college education isn’t getting any cheaper,” said Tom Joyner, chairman of his Foundation and host of the top-ranked nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning show. “So, I want to help a graduating high school senior with a chance to attend a black college to pursue their dreams.”

  • Harvey Martin Dream Foundation Scholarship Application
    The Harvey Martin Dreams Foundation, Inc. will enhance the scholastic performance of academically marginal students. The primary focus of the Foundation will be to coordinate various innovative and integrated programs, resources and initiatives that will instill knowledge, improve skills and develop the student’s intellectual and moral qualities. In fulfillment of our purpose, the Foundation will strategically seek, recognize and reward the efforts of students who demonstrate a personal desire and work ethic to achieve progressive academic improvement. These students must also demonstrate a desire to advance to a higher level of instruction.

  • Scholar Athlete Scholarship Opportunity-now through May 7, 2017
    A scholarship opportunity is available for senior varsity athletes. NBC 5 is proud to partner with Wingstop to award one $1000 scholarship each month to our deserving North Texas high school athletes. Anyone can nominate the students, including themselves. It is most beneficial to the student if the nominator provides as much information as possible on the form (GPA, number of AP classes, organizations, activities, and honors).

  • HISPANIC ORGANIZATION FOR GENEALOGY AND RESEARCH
    HOGAR de Dallas was founded in 1998 for the purpose of stimulating interest in Hispanic genealogy, assisting in the research … of Hispanic lineages, promoting an understanding of Hispanic heritage within the community, and supporting the genealogy section of the Erik Jonsson Public Library in Dallas and other libraries as deemed necessary. We encourage young people of Hispanic ancestry to trace their lineage. By doing so, our hope is that they gain a truer sense of self; to be proud of who they are by knowing where they came from.
