Elementary students from all across the Dallas Independent School District converged at Adamson High to compete in the Fall UIL A+ Academic Competition on Saturday, Dec. 3.

With 95 schools in attendance, more than 1,700 students in third-, fourth- and fifth-grades competed in nine UIL academic competitions: Ready Writing; Maps, Graphs & Charts; Dictionary Skills, Number Sense; Storytelling; Spelling; Chess; Social Studies; and Listening.

Sponsored by the Dallas ISD Student Activities Department, the schools were divided into seven groups to accommodate the large number of students vying to rank in the top 10 places of each event.

“The incredible number of elementary students who participated in the academic competitions this past weekend is a testament to the schools’ commitment to the district’s student achievement goal of having all students participate in at least one extracurricular or co-curricular activity each year,” said Sharla Hudspeth, director of student activities.
