Male leaders from around the community formed a cheer squad to welcome students to the Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Fred F. Florence Middle School, a new single-gender campus. (Watch this)

Students and staff got off to a smiling start on the first day of school at Jose “Joe” May Elementary School, the final school funded by the 2008 bond program. (Read this)

Registration is open for business and community leaders looking to volunteer for Principal for a Day, which brings leaders into schools across the district. (Register online)

Passing the baton

W.W. Samuell High School hosted a baton passing ceremony to commemorate Jennifer Tecklenburg assignment as the school’s first-ever female principal. (Read this)

Strong STAAR results

STAAR results show that Transformation and Innovation schools, which are part of the district’s public school choice initiative, showed overall positive gains in student achievement. (Read this)
