Saying thanks to ‘Our Uncommon Heroes’

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, which is May 2–6, is a chance to recognize those who commit themselves to helping all students succeed. (Read profiles on teachers and staff)

Heart of Child Nutrition Award

The Food and Child Nutrition Services Department gave out its Heart of Child Nutrition Award to exceptional cafeteria teams at several schools. (Read this)

Counselor of the Year

Norma Wright, a counselor at Billy Earl Dade Middle School, was named Dallas ISD’s 2015-2016 Counselor of the Year at a ceremony. (Read this)

Collegiate academy applications

Dallas ISD so far has accepted 982 students into its seven new collegiate academies and P-TECH opening next year that are often described as “game-changers.” More than 1,950 students have applied for the approximately 1,000 available seats. (Read this)

Gates Millennium Scholars

Seven Dallas ISD seniors have been named 2016 Gates Millennium Scholars, which is one of the nation’s most prestigious scholarships. (Read this)

A one-of-a-kind robotics team

The Sunset High School Robo*Flash team, which is the first robotics team composed of only students with special needs, was recognized as trail blazers at the board of trustees meeting. (Read this)
