TexPREP STEM program gives incoming seventh-graders exciting summer extracurricular option

Do you know a current sixth-grade student looking for a fun introduction to STEM careers? Encourage them to apply to the six week Dallas Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (TexPREP)!

Held June 13 to July 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., TexPREP gives students the opportunity to meet new friends, develop problem solving and critical thinking skills, and connect with professionals and professors from a variety of STEM backgrounds. Most importantly, the program curriculum was designed to increase participant’s potential for careers in these areas.

The academic enrichment program is presented over the course of four summers, and each year builds on the previous summer’s program. Classes will be on local college campuses, and high school elective credit is awarded for the successful completion of each summer of Dallas TexPREP.

The best part for Dallas ISD students? The district will pick up the tab for this unique experience. But hurry, space is limited and students must complete an application and be recommended for a spot. Students who complete the sixth grade by Summer 2016 and are interested in mathematics, science, technology, or engineering careers are eligible for the TexPREP program. Minority and female students are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications are available from sixth grade counselors, math or science teachers, or you can contact Ellen Pool at ellen.pool@utdallas.edu or 972-883-6244. Applications are due May 20, but since space is limited spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis, so apply now!
