Dallas teacher among select few nationwide to receive funding on global classroom integration

Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy teacher William Adkins is among the 50 teachers in 27 states and the District of Columbia awarded the professional development grants by the Institute of International Education and American Institute for Foreign Study Foundation in recognition of his outstanding work. Adkins is the only teacher within the Dallas Independent School District,to receive national recognition for successfully integrating global perspectives and exchanges into his classroom.

The award will fund Adkins’ ongoing efforts to globalize his instructional environment and advocate for global competencies in curriculum.

He has also received awards from the Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad, Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund, Toyota International Teachers and most recently an IREX fellowship from the U.S. Department of State.

In March, Adkins traveled as an IREX fellow to Morocco with 11 other educators. While there, he visited several universities and schools to further his research.

With an average of 17 years of teaching experience, the winners instruction methods is what set them apart in the application process. The majority of the grant recipients work at the high school level. Six of the 48 winning teachers concomitantly serve as school administrators, and two are principals.
