Dallas ISD, in conjunction with the Texas Organizing Project, will hold four information sessions for parents, students and the community about the recent changes in the immigration policy and will provide experts in immigration matters to answer questions and provide additional information.

The meetings, which go from 6–7:30 p.m., are happening:

  • April 6: Thomas Jefferson High School, 4001 Walnut Hill Lane
  • April 27: L.G. Pinkston High School, 2200 Dennison St.
  • May 17: W.W. Samuell High School, 8928 Palisade Drive
  • May 24: Sunset High School, 2120 W. Jefferson Blvd.

What is DAPA?

On Nov. 20, 2014, the president announced that, within six months, USCIS would begin accepting requests for DAPA, Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents. If you receive deferred action under DAPA, you may be able to stay in the United States temporarily without fear of deportation. In addition, you will be considered for employment authorization, which would allow you to work legally in the United States, for a three year period.

What is DACA?

On Jun. 15, 2012, the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that certain people who came to the United States as children and meet several guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal. They are also eligible for work authorization. Deferred action is a use of prosecutorial discretion to defer removal action against an individual for a certain period of time. Deferred action does not provide lawful status.
