Dallas ISD on March 8 released the following statement to staff regarding the William H. Cotton Building:

Dear Staff: We wanted to make you aware of information that has recently come to us regarding the water sources at the William H. Cotton Building located on Lamar Street. In late January 2016, district officials requested EFI Global, an environmental health and safety firm, to test the facility’s water. On Monday, March 7, the district received the findings of the report, which concluded that some of the water sources at the Cotton Building are non-potable. The Cotton Building serves as a work location for several hundred employees, many of whom are dispatched to campuses, including custodial, maintenance, environmental, HVAC, real estate, operation business services, warehouse and transportation employees. District officials personally informed all Cotton building employees of this news earlier today. Out of an abundance of caution the district plans to relocate employees from the Cotton Building to other district facilities after spring break. In the interim, bottled drinking water and other water sources will be provided for all employees, and the water to all drinking fountains, ice machines and lavatory sinks at Cotton will be shut off. As always the well-being of our employees is a top priority of the district. We anticipate media coverage, which may prompt additional questions. Please know that the district is committed to providing updates as information becomes available. |
