Parents invited to access STAAR test resources

0

STAAR is the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, which are tests designed to measure how well students have mastered the knowledge and skills for each grade level. Dallas ISD offers a variety of resources to inform parents about the upcoming tests. The recent STAAR Live Forum, hosted by the district’s Office of Family and Community Engagement, featured detailed  answers to these and other questions:

  • What is STAAR?
  • What skills do STAAR tests measure?
  • Which students are required to take the tests?
  • How can a parent determine how a child performed on STAAR?

Parents and staff from across the district tuned into the forum to ask questions and get information about STAAR from a panel of district experts. This information is now available online. To view the bilingual forum, visit https://www.dallasisd.org/STAAR. The page also features several of last year’s tests with answer keys along with tutorials, sample test questions, and a guide to help parents measure their child’s performance on STAAR.

Additionally, the Family and Community Engagement team is holding a series of STAAR parent workshops in various schools this month and next. To see the list of workshops, go here.

In the coming weeks, thousands of district students in grades 3 through 8 will take various STAAR exams in reading, math, science and social studies. Parents can go here to review the dates of the tests. STAAR is vitally important and can affect a child’s promotion to the next grade or graduation from high school. The district wants to equip parents with resources to help them help their children. Parents should feel free to reach out for help and support with STAAR or other student achievement matters. Assistance is as close as your child’s teachers and counselor.
