UPDATE: Classes resume Monday at Woodrow Wilson High School

(Updated: Jan. 31, 6:21 p.m.) Classes will resume at the regular time Monday, Feb. 1, at Woodrow Wilson High School. All students and staff should report at the regular time.

(Updated: Jan. 27 12:13 p.m.) After assessing the smoke damage that occurred yesterday at Woodrow Wilson High School, district officials have decided to cancel classes Thursday, Jan. 28 and Friday, Jan. 29. Classes are expected to resume Monday, Feb. 1. All students and staff should report at regular time unless otherwise notified. Please continue to monitor social media and district websites for the latest information.

Students and staff will be allowed to enter the building Thursday, Jan. 28, from 8 – 10 a.m., to collect their personal belongings if needed. Students must enter the main entrance on Glasgow Dr., where they will be escorted by staff.

Saturday events at the school have been cancelled. District officials are working with the Athletic Department to find alternative locations for any sporting events originally scheduled at the school. Coaches will contact student athletes directly.

As a result of a fire today at Woodrow Wilson High School, district officials have decided to cancel classes on at the campus for tomorrow, Wed., Jan. 27, 2016. The administration is assessing the damage from the fire and will make a decision by midday Wednesday about whether the school will reopen on Thursday.

Students and staff were safely evacuated from the school on Tuesday after the fire was reported. Students and staff were moved to portables, the school football field and neighboring campus J.L. Long Middle School as administrators contacted parents to tell them where and when to pick up their children. The remaining students were sheltered on the campus and at Long until the end of the schoolday.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
