The South Oak Cliff High School community came together again this holiday season to grant Christmas wishes to 72 elementary students from eight Dallas ISD schools.

The Bear-y, Merry Christmas Party in a Winter Wonderland is an annual tradition that sees students and some staff at South Oak Cliff High School adopt elementary students and buy and collect presents on their Christmas wish list. Each elementary school in the South Oak Cliff feeder pattern was invited to nominate 10 deserving students to have their wish list come true.

From bicycles and tablets to basketballs and games, the elementary students often smiled in disbelief as they stepped up on the high school’s stage on Dec. 11. to collect their presents.

“Seeing the look on the kids’ faces when they saw that they got what they asked for was an amazing feeling,” said Sindia Silva, a senior at South Oak Cliff High School. “I’m so proud of our school for stepping up and helping out these younger students.”

The Christmas Party also featured dance performances, lunch, appearances by Santa and Mrs. Clause, and much more.

“Every kid deserves gifts for Christmas,” Silva said. “We have the privilege of being able to help them out.”
