Historically Black Colleges and Universities to be highlighted on Wednesday

The African American Success Initiative (AASI) will highlight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) through the “HBCU Experience” on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 5:45–6:45 p.m.

The event is being held at the S.T.E.A.M. Middle School at D.A. Hulcy, 9339 S Polk St.

The AASI initiative is aligned with the Destination 2020 key action of educating students to become “college-ready” or “career-ready” by the time of graduation. During the event, successful graduates of HBCU’s who are now Dallas ISD staff and principals will be highlighted. In the spirit of the HBCU experience, AASI has planned the “Battle of the Bands,” which will showcase Dallas ISD high school bands, cheer and dance teams.

The district is excited to announce the following Dallas ISD schools will be participating in this sensational display of talent: South Oak Cliff High School, Wilmer Hutchins High School, Sunset High School and Pinkston High School. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will also provide a brief show on the “Greek Life Experience”. Trustee Lew Blackburn and Thomas Joyner Jr. will emcee the occasion.

The “HBCU Experience” is an opportunity to encourage all Dallas ISD students to broaden their horizon as it relates to choosing the best college or university for their personal journey.
