Approximately 400 Dallas ISD campus office managers, financial clerks and select central administration staff are learning ways to better support the district’s departments and schools through a specialized training happening this week at Skyline High School.

At the Finance and Accounting Services Division’s (FASD) Business Academy, administrative staff are receiving professional development from different district departments, including FASD, Volunteer and Partnership Services, and Food and Child Nutrition Services. The training includes hands-on instruction and computer-based training relevant to the roles and responsibilities of those in attendance.

“We have central and campus-based staff learning about updates to payroll, accounts payable, and various other means of support to employees, departments, and campuses across the district. Staff members are also learning updates and education on new and existing software,” said Roxanna Cazarez, the Finance Division executive administrative assistant who worked with FASD Executive Director Edward Sorola to organize the event.

Employees will receive a total of 27 hours of professional development content through computer lab sessions, interactive workshops and lunch training sessions by the training’s close on Wednesday afternoon.

Boude Story Middle School Financial Clerk Yaritza Aguilar was grateful for the opportunity to attend the district business academy. Aguilar joined the district in the last four months of the previous school year.

“Being new, myself, and working with an office manager who is also new, the business academy is providing a lot of insight as to how I can more effectively manage things like general accounts, the activity funds, and anything else my role may be required to take on,” Aguilar said. “Having the opportunity to attend free professional development like this here in the district means a lot because it means the district is interested in investing in every individual employee so that they can best serve their campuses.”
