Staff Appreciation Spotlight: Maintenance and Facilities Employees

0

This week, The Hub will recognize district staff who are instrumental in supporting the educational experiences of Dallas ISD students.

Like their counterparts across the nation, Dallas ISD staff play an essential role in student success. During Staff Appreciation Week, we invite the community to join us in recognizing the dedicated employees who wholeheartedly commit themselves to providing an exceptional educational experience for all children.

Each day this week, we will recognize three of the hundreds of exemplary Dallas ISD staff across the district. As we highlight their experiences, we salute the role every staff member plays in making our schools, communities and country better places to live and work.

Today, we salute maintenance and grounds employees. Each employee answered the same three questions: What has been your favorite moment as an employee, what is the best thing about being an employee in Dallas ISD, and what is one way in which you hope to impact students in Dallas ISD?

Robert Chisolm (Division 4) lead custodian at Truett E. S.

My most memorable moment as a staff member was transforming the school from the previous condition it was in to turning it into the way it is now.

The best thing about working in Dallas ISD is that there’s always time for improvement and career advancement. Also, the fact I’m working for the second largest school district in Texas is exciting to me.

The impact I hope to have on students is to create a safe and clean environment and make sure the school is ready for the next day.

Carl Skinner, facilities (Southwest Maintenance Quadrant Craftsman):

My most memorable moment as a staff member was when I took over Stockard Middle and turned it around. Prior to joining the Southwest Maintenance Quadrant, I was the Facility Supervisor at Stockard Middle School. The students left for Christmas break and when they came back my staff and I had cleaned, waxed, and painted the hallways. Upon seeing this, the students were very excited.

To me, the best thing about working for Dallas ISD is that I also get to play a role in education. I have been involved with custodial, multi-skill maintenance, and safety. All these contribute to the best possible learning environment.

With being a district employee, the children always watch what we do. I just do my best every day. We impact students in so many ways. When I am around students, I always want them to see me being fair, friendly, and focused.

Richard Payne, grounds specialist in concrete/heavy equipment

My most memorable moment as a staff member was my very first emergency call out working all night till 5 a.m. and having to go right back to work at 7 a.m.

The best thing about working in Dallas ISD is all the co-workers

The impact I hope to have on students is letting them know the importance of graduating.
