What to know about Pre-K Registration Week

From April 6–11, Dallas ISD is holding its weeklong effort to encourage parents to enroll their children in pre-K.

Here are the details for Pre-K Registration Week.

Why should I register my child in pre-K?

Accepted research shows that 85 percent of a child’s brain development occurs in their first five years. Simply put, the research proves that quality early education is critical in preparing children for lifelong success.

Where do I register?

You can register your child for pre-K at your local elementary school. To learn your local elementary school and its location, click here.

Can I register at my elementary school on any day during Pre-K Registration Week?

No, each campus has selected specific dates and times for registration. To find detailed information on these dates and times, use this Registration Week List.

What documentation should I bring to register?

To register, you need to bring the following items:

  • Shot records
  • Birth certificate
  • Parent/Guardian Picture ID
  • Proof of address (utility bill or lease)
  • Social Security card (optional)
  • Proof of income (AFDC card, W-2 Forms, check stubs, bank statements for all working members of the household)

What are the qualifications for enrolling my child in pre-K?

To be eligible for the district pre-K program, a child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the upcoming school year. The child is eligible for enrollment in the pre-K program if he/she meets any or all of the following criteria:

  • Be unable to speak and comprehend the English language
  • Be educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program)
  • Be homeless
  • Be the dependent of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States
  • Has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) (foster care) following an adversary hearing.

What are the hours for a pre-K students?
Student in pre-K attend school from 7:55 a.m.–2:55 p.m.
