Seagoville and SEM will take academic quest to state

Seagoville High School finished the day strong during the Region 12 Academic Decathlon and will join the School of Science and Engineering to represent the district at the state competition Feb. 26 to March 1, in San Antonio.

Seagoville, led by coaches Mark Harrington and Brenda Tyner, took first place in the medium school category to win the school’s first shot at the state title.The historic moment was not lost on the team as the entire group catapulted to the stage when Seagoville’s name was announced during the regional meet held on Jan. 31.

“We are really proud of our students,” Mark Harrington, Seagoville High School Academic Decathlon coach said. “They worked so hard and were dedicated to the team and the task.”

The School of Science and Engineering took first place in the large school category.

“I am so proud of our students achieving what they set out to do as a team even with the workload of multiple AP classes,” Julie Dang, SEM Academic Decathlon coach said. “They worked hard and held each other accountable.”
