Real Estate Council celebrates 25 years with $25,000 for scholarships

The idea of celebrating one’s birthday by giving a gift to someone else is unusual, but makes perfect sense for an organization that’s committed to impacting the community.

When leaders of The Real Estate Council, an association of commercial real estate businesses and professionals in North Texas, looked at ways to commemorate their 25th anniversary, they knew they wanted to honor the organization’s tradition of service. Eventually, they decided that establishing a $25,000 scholarship fund for Dallas ISD students was the perfect choice.

The scholarship fund, which will be administered by ScholarShot, will benefit several students over time. The group plans to continue funding the scholarship on a yearly basis. Dallas ISD graduates who participate in the Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program will be given priority consideration, but all students may apply.

“The Real Estate Council believes that one of the most significant investments we can make is in the lives of the children of Texas. Education has been one of the core focus areas of our foundation, and our members understand that a strong public education system is an essential economic driver,” said Linda McMahon, president and CEO of The Real Estate Council. The district’s ongoing partnership with the organization demonstrates the importance of engaging the community to impact student achievement.

According to Robin Minick, director of The Real Estate Council Foundation, the idea for the scholarship came out of the organization’s experience last summer with the Mayor’s intern program. Six students were chosen to participate in “Real Estate 101,” where they rotated through assignments at different commercial real estate companies. They plan to expand the internship this coming summer to include more students and companies.
