Steps toward a successful TEI rollout continue

Principals play an important role when communicating the components of the Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) – Dallas ISD’s new teacher evaluation system that defines, supports and rewards effective teachers. Principals must have a deep understanding of the components that make up the new evaluation system to ensure a successful implementation and to answer questions and provide feedback to teachers.

The district leadership team meets regularly with campus leadership to provide ongoing training. Yesterday, principals, executive directors, and assistant superintendents gathered at D.A. Hulcy Middle School to receive additional, in-depth TEI training. Superintendent Miles worked with principals to review their knowledge of TEI and provided another comprehensive overview of system components to ensure principals were up to date on all aspects of the initiative. Principals ended the day with breakout sessions with their colleagues where they had the opportunity to prepare their own presentations on TEI that will be shared with school staffs in January.

District wide communication of the new teacher evaluation system continues to be an on-going effort. TEI is a continuous improvement model and the district remains committed to strengthening and improving the system by regularly incorporating feedback from principals and teachers.
