Photo Gallery: New Parent Center at Madison High School

A lone oven, refrigerator and a few kitchen cabinets are all that remain from what used to be a home economics classroom at James Madison High School. Now, parent volunteers have a fantastic new space to work in thanks to support from The Heart of America Foundation and Capital One.

Last year, Madison’s library was renovated by the same two groups.

In the Parent Center, Dallas ISD crews ripped out the no-longer-used cooking equipment, rebuilt walls, hid original piping and installed new flooring. On Dec. 11, volunteers added the finishing touches by assembling furniture, loading bookshelves with resources geared for parents of high school students and freshening the walls with inspirational signs.

The renovation was celebrated by Madison parent volunteers, staff members, District 9 Trustee Bernadette Nutall, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Karon Cofield, Principal Gayle Smith, Mayor Mike Rawlings, Dean Rosencrans of Capital One and John Flynn of the Heart of America Foundation. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, parents were able to attend a financial literacy workshop conducted by Capital One employees.
