The 2014 season for UIL volleyball is over but the high-blocking, low-digging action saw stellar performances from key student-athletes and a shining record of zero district losses by one Dallas ISD team on their route to playoff contention.
Carter (10-0) led district 11-4A ahead of Lincoln (7-3), Wilmer Hutchins (6-4), and James Madison (4-6) for playoff qualification this season.
Carter’s Tanisha Brown was named Coach of the Year and Junior Middle Hitter Tristen Cojoe was named the Most Valuable Player for 11-4A.
Molina’s Lady Jaguars took district 13-5A with an 11-1 district finish, 12-5 overall. Kimball came in one game behind in district play followed by South Oak Cliff and W.H. Adamson to round out the top four district finishers for 13-5A.
Molina’s Amanda Atlas was named Coach of the Year and Molina Senior Outside Hitter Erica Chavez was dubbed Most Valuable Player.
In district 11-5A, Woodrow Wilson’s Lady Wildcats and the Hillcrest High School Lady Cougars finished third and fourth, respectively, behind Carrollton Creekview and Newman Smith.
Wilson had a trio of student-athletes named to superlative honors—Alissa Amaro was named the district’s Outstanding Libero, Jillian Barthelemy took home Outstanding Hitter honors and Laura Doocy was named Outstanding Blocker.
Hillcrest’s Melanie Purchal was named Newcomer of the Year.
In District 9-6A, W.T. White was the last team to squeak into playoff contention following a tight district race just ahead of Skyline.
Skyline’s Tiara Wilson was named Newcomer of the Year and Morgan Morris was elected to First Team All-District.
