On Friday, Nov. 14, special guests volunteered to read to students across Dallas ISD during a JFK Day of Service Celebration/Veterans Day Literacy Event. The effort was part of Dallas Reads, a language and literacy initiative of the district.
The purpose was to highlight the importance of literacy and public service as well as to honor community heroes such as veterans, police, firefighters and others. The day also gave the opportunity for high-school students to earn community service hours by reading to elementary students.
Pictured below, members of the National Honor Society chapter and Homecoming Court at L.G. Pinkston High School visited C.F. Carr Elementary School to read to classes. Also, parent volunteers read to students at Jimmie Tyler Brashear Elementary School. At Rosemont Primary School, Gabriela Natale, host of the nationally televised show SuperLatina, visited the school to read and encourage students.
