Approximately 100 students from Billy Earl Dade Middle School sharpened their leadership skills and received encouragement during the inaugural Dade Leadership Academy gathering on Nov. 13 at the Hulcy school campus. The goal of the project is to build a stronger cohort of student leaders that can serve as mentors and help positively influence their peers.

Campus counselors identified students to attend the workshop based on their current outcomes. One-half of the students are among those with the best attendance, behavior and grades. The other half of the students among those struggling with attendance, behavior and grades. At the event, representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice led a multi-pronged approach. Students were divided into small groups to receive guidance and to discuss their role as leaders in the school. Later in the day, the students participated in tasks built around supporting the new Dallas ISD Student Core Beliefs at Dade.
