Skyline High School teacher Margie Robinson will receive Humanities Texas’ 2014 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award at a ceremony at 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13, in the school auditorium at 7777 Forney Road. District 23 state Sen. Royce West and Dallas ISD District 9 Trustee Bernadette Nutall will join Humanities Texas’ representatives at the ceremony honoring Robinson who teaches Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition.

The state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, Humanities Texas is a nonprofit, educational organization supported by the state and the U.S. Congress. It conducts and supports public programs in history, literature, philosophy, and the other humanities disciplines. The group also works to strengthen Texas communities by cultivating the knowledge and judgment required of citizens in a representative democracy.

The Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities award includes a $5,000 cash award to Robinson and an additional $500 to the school for the purchase of humanities-based instructional materials. Robinson, a former NASA project manager turned teacher, was selected from more than 500 nominations of Texas social studies and language arts teachers. Award recipients were chosen based on an “expansive and profound knowledge” of the subjects they teach and a record of active involvement in community activities and professional organizations.
