Lincoln High School alumni pep rally celebrates South Dallas Super Bowl

Lincoln High School’s Head Girls Basketball Coach Carlesa Dixon returned to her alma mater three years ago with the pride she remembered as a former student and state champion basketball player for the Tigers.

Settling into her new position, Dixon noticed the decline in alumni participation at the school—a key factor in the spirit and pride of previous classes and generations of the Lincoln Tiger family.

“Coming back to LHS and seeing my home and alumni participation wasn’t as strong, I wanted to bring it back and get alumni involved,” said Dixon.

And that she did, taking a major role in renewing a signature alumni/community celebration.

This year will mark the third annual Lincoln High School Alumni Pep Rally highlighting the South Dallas Community’s fall football tradition—the South Dallas Super Bowl, an annual rivalry match between the James Madison High School Trojans and the Lincoln Tigers that has taken place for more than 50 years.

The pep rally will feature alumni cheer, band and choir performances, and other displays of school spirit.

Former Lincoln Tigers are invited to attend the event, set for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Lincoln High School auditorium, 2826 Hatcher St. Admission is $2 per person.

“This is something we all look forward to,” said Dixon. “It’s like a big reunion. It brings us all back together to remember the greatness that exists here, and has helped increase volunteering and involvement among alumni at the school.”

The game is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park.
