Employees reach for $200,000 to support families through United Way

Each November, Dallas ISD employees join with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to positively impact families across the area by participating in an employee giving campaign. Through payroll deductions or one-time donations, employees help support programs that make a difference in the lives of parents and children by providing much-needed assistance that can be life-changing.

The funds raised help support programs in Dallas ISD schools such as the Academic Success Project Learn, where after-school activities reinforce skills and knowledge learned during class; Mercy Street Mentoring Program, a long-term effort designed to place caring mentors in the life of every student in West Dallas from 4th grade through high school; Metrocrest Social Services, which provides families with school supplies and uniforms to help meet basic needs; Foundation for the Education of Young Women, an organization that ensures girls have the academic knowledge, social preparedness and collegiate acumen needed for success in college; and many other programs throughout the district’s 224 schools.

The district’s goal this year is to raise $200,000. As an incentive, employees who commit to a minimum $5, 12-month payroll deduction or a minimum one-time $20 donation may wear college T-shirts and jeans to work on Nov. 7, 14, 21 and Dec. 5.

Since 2011, when United Way launched its strategic educational plan, it has engaged in efforts to impact early childhood, STEM, college- and career-readiness, parental engagement and after-school programs in schools across the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Since that time, district employees’ donations have assisted United Way to invest $18 million into programs to help students and parents succeed.
