Parents are taking over the role of learners at L.G. Pinkston High School on Nov. 1 as they gather to participate in the PREP U Academic Rally Super Saturday and Resource Fair, featuring a half day of workshops, resources and fun activities to encourage them to participate more fully in education.

Hundreds of parents and students are expected to take part in the Parent Resource and Empowerment Program University Super Saturday, which is free and open to all Dallas ISD families. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes refreshments, free health screenings, more than 30 resource booths, demonstration tables, entertainment for children, and workshops to help parents and guardians become more involved in their children’s education. The workshops also will help parents with tips and strategies on how to support learning at home.

In addition to the activities for parents, the PREP U Super Saturday at Pinkston High School will offer students of all grades the opportunity to participate in an Academic Pep Rally conducted by Dallas ISD Trustee Dr. Lew Blackburn. During the rally, which starts at 10 a.m., student groups will perform and various speakers will share information with students that will help them be successful in school. Students who bring their report cards showing good grades also will get a chance to participate in a drawing for exciting prizes to recognize and reward their academic achievement.

Super Saturday workshops are in English with Spanish interpretation available. Childcare is provided free of charge for children ages 3 and up.

The PREP U Super Saturdays are part of the PREP University Family Workshop Series conducted by the Dallas ISD’s Office of Family and Community Engagement. All workshops in the series are free and open to all Dallas ISD families and are designed to provide parents and legal guardians access to community resources and workshops that empower them with strategies to support children academically, emotionally and socially.
