Students, parents and faculty members of School for the Talented and Gifted (TAG) had their back-to-school picnic in early September at Flag Pole Hill Park. Parents, students and faculty look forward to this annual event, which celebrates the beginning of school and gives everyone the opportunity to welcome new families to the school community.  SI_Picnic table group

Principal Ben Mackey was the afternoon’s grill master, cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone. It was an old-fashioned style picnic with families bringing side dishes, desserts and drinks to share. Younger siblings and dogs are always part of the fun. Many of the students played Frisbee and a friendly game of flag football across grade levels is an annual tradition.

“It’s a great tradition that brings back memories of spending an afternoon hanging out with family, enjoying good food and catching up with friends,” said Mackey. “Everyone looks forward to the school picnic and seeing their friends again after summer break.”

TAG is a Dallas Independent School District college-preparatory magnet high school that was ranked as the best public high school in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in 2013 and 2014. Newsweek magazine ranked TAG as the No. 1 public high school in the U.S. for the past four years.
