Comeback to the future: Effort aims to bring students back to class

Students must be in school to take advantage of every instructional moment. Every day missed is a missed opportunity to build a strong foundation for their future success.

Through Operation Comeback, Dallas ISD’s student-recovery initiative, district staff joined with community volunteers to visit the homes of students who have not attended school all year to encourage them to return to class.

Teams across the district walked the neighborhoods, knocked on doors and talked with neighbors to help located students. In many cases, teams found students had moved out of the district without withdrawing from school.

Prior to the neighborhood walk, district staff manned the Operation Comeback Phone Bank calling more than 5,900 homes to determine the whereabouts of students listed as “no-shows.”

This is the fifth year Dallas ISD has participated in the effort to bring students back to school.
