The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees gave the administration the green light to hire a search firm to help find top candidates for the district’s hard-to-staff positions. The board approved the proposal in a 6-3 vote during its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on August 28. Under the proposal, the district can allocate up to $300,000 during the next three years for these services.

Additionally, the board voted to accept a grant increase (up to $50,000) for the Gates Next Gen Systems Initiative, Phase II. The Gates grant is being used to develop personalized learning models in schools of the future with plans to launch programs in 2015-16.

Trustees also accepted several gifts, donations and partnership agreements that will serve students and staff including a donation (up to $80,000) from Commit! to help Dallas ISD increase its data analysis capacity for 2014-2015; an agreement with the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (up to $435,000 value over the next three years) to help with professional development services; a partnership agreement with Earning by Learning to provide gifts and donations (up to $40,000 in value) to increase literacy in schools; and a $325,000 partnership during the next three years with Blue Sky for the Science of Flight STEM education program.
